Walks of Life

Her Next Move puts women on the path to connection

When I joined She Who Walks, it felt like Cascades Park, I saw about 20 women gathered near the entrance, stretching and greeting one another with warm smiles. I felt a little shy as I first walked up to them, but I was quickly welcomed. It was that easy.

She Who Walks, an outreach event coordinated by local networking organization Her Next Move, is a biweekly wellness gathering created to help women slow down, prioritize their mental and physical health, and build genuine community. We walked two miles around the park, introducing ourselves between laughs and real conversations about careers, goals, and the challenges that come with navigating your 20s. By the end, it didn’t feel like a group of strangers anymore. It felt like we had known each other much longer than two miles.

In this city full of networking opportunities, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by how many spaces off er the next thing to attend or achieve. But Her Next Move has differentiated itself from the pack, creating a real community for young women just trying to figure out life and personal growth. It’s a refreshing, down-to-earth premise.

Founded by Florida A&M University (FAMU) alumna Tamerah Williams in April 2025, Her Next Move was born out of a very personal experience.

After graduating in 2024, Williams realized something was missing—the social facet of university life. Her early mission for Her Next Move was simple: Create a space where young women could gather without an agenda—no grades, no applications, no com- petition. Just connection, account- ability, and support. A space where women could talk openly about career pivots, faith, relationships, entrepreneurship, mental health, and everything in between.

“I graduated from FAMU in 2024, and I was very involved,” she shares. “But a lot of the spaces [had] an end goal tied to school. I really wanted to create something genuine where women could make real connections and feel supported in whatever phase of life they’re in.”

What started as a simple idea evolved into one of the first key events under Her Next Move’s umbrella: an intimate gathering series designed for ambitious women, called Bloom & Brunch.

Bloom & Brunch began as an invite-only function, but after Williams saw the impact it made, she decided to open future opportunities to all women across Tallahassee.

“A whole year later, people are still asking me ‘When’s the next Bloom & Brunch?’” Williams says with a smile. “It means so much because it really started as just one small idea.”

Next up: Her Next Move left the brunch table and got active with She Who Walks.

She Who Walks allows women to meet and mingle while prioritizing physical and mental health. There’s no pressure to perform, impress, or have it all figured out. You just show up.

After the walk I attended, many of us grabbed smoothies and breakfast nearby at The Power Plant Cafe. We kept talking—not in that forced “networking” way, but naturally. By the time I left, I’d made new friends (and plenty of Instagram connections) and witnessed impressive career advice.

“There are a lot of spaces for older women,” Williams explains. “But I don’t think there are [as many] for growing young women trying to elevate themselves.”

Her Next Move speaks to women who want advancement without losing softness and growth without losing contact with others. It’s for recent graduates; college students; young professionals, entrepreneurs, and creatives; and women in transitional seasons … women who are ambitious but aware that success means more than a resume.

She Who Walks is also in collaboration with other local organizations to provide the Her Next Move scholarship, a $300 award open to any young woman in the area. As of now, She Who Walks remains a biweekly event, and Williams anticipates a pickleball social series in the future.

Her Next Move also makes moves online. Through a GroupMe chat, Williams sends weekly reflection prompts to push members to think deeper and check in with themselves.

Looking ahead, Williams hopes the collective grows beyond Tallahassee.

“If I move, I want to create chapters in different cities,” she says. “I want women to step into leadership and keep [this chapter] going.”
