Swim styles that make a splash

The dog days you’ve been dreaming of are around the corner: beach vacations, pool days, and daytrips to nearby springs.
You may be used to pulling on frayed denim shorts and a baggy T-shirt over your trusty swimsuit, but swim style can be just as statement making as any other outfit.
Narcissus provides a shopping experience that helps women feel comfortable, confident, and cool in the swimwear they choose.
Sarah Villella, manager and buyer at Narcissus, is seeing fabric trends including crochet, metallic, and seersucker in neon hues for the 2026 swimwear season.
Popular silhouettes like triangle tops and side-tie bottoms will call us back to the early 2000s. Elevated one-pieces with cutouts, asymmetrical necklines, twist-front details, structured bustlines, and intricate hardware are also at the top of the trending list.
Villella provides insights on what to wear no matter where the water takes you.
Beach Babe
Tallahassee is mere hours away from some of the world’s most beautiful and coveted beaches on the Emerald Coast. Whether you head over for the day or make a vacation out of it, you can plan your beachwear to be as stunning as the coast.
“For more active beachgoers, we suggest styles from Beach Riot, like their high-waisted shimmer set, or a L’Agence color-blocked one piece with matching skirt and cardigan,” says Villella. “Both keep you cute but covered.”
For the sunbathers and beach readers, “We love Maaji for their reversible styles or Hutch for their vibrant prints,” says Villella.
If you plan on popping into a beachside boutique or waterfront restaurant, Villella suggests a gauze cover-up from Malai.
Pool Party
Whether it’s a friend’s poolside barbecue or a trip to a neighborhood pool, when in public, you’ll want to love your look.
The easiest way to do this is with a coordinating swimsuit and cover-up combo.
“Whether you’re lying by the pool or diving in, chic looks come together effortlessly from brands like Minkpink and Staud because of the coordinating coverups,” says Villella.
Micropleated swimwear is both fashionable and flattering. This detailing adds dimension without adding bulk. Add a sarong wrap skirt or sheer kaftan in a cool color to complete the look.
Waterway Wonders
Northwest Florida brims with natural springs, rivers, and watering holes. Swim, paddle, canoe, or float in fashion.
Indulging in the natural vibes, crotchets are a bohemian look taking over stores this summer.
“One of the biggest trends in swim is crochet—soft, breathable, and easy to layer,” says Villella. “O’Neill offers lightweight fabrics in tunics and pants that match your suit.”
Before you slip on your water shoes or flippers, consider a jelly shoe like Tory Burch’s Kira Padded Flip-Flop or Intentionally Blank’s jelly Mary Jane.
Aquatic Add-Ons
Your look doesn’t have to stop at the suit. Look flawless from head to toe with accessories that are both necessary and fun.
“Grab a full-brimmed hat from BTB to protect your gorgeous face, I-Sea polarized sunglasses for your eyes, and throw them in one of the reversible Tory Burch Ella totes—the perfect size tote for a full day,” says Villella.
The charm trend that’s been taking over for the past year has made its way to swimwear in the form of whimsical hardware and accents on both suits and coverups. This includes beading, pearls, crystals, colored stones, tassels, and more.
If you’re unsure where to start or what look is for you, entrust a local boutique.
“Every body is a swim body, and we want to help you find something that you love yourself in,” says Villella. “Unlike online shopping, where ordering from pictures is nearly impossible, our stylist will listen to your needs and bring you many options to help you find your new favorite suit or two.”
