Meet Tallahassee’s 2012 Top Singles

For a third year, 18 brave souls have agreed to auction themselves off for a lunch date during Tallahassee Magazine’s Top Singles event, planned for July 21 at Hotel Duval. A love connection isn’t guaranteed, but a financial boost for local charities is assured — all the money bid that night for dates goes to the singles’ charity of choice. Last year, the total topped $21,000.
For this introduction to the Top Singles Class of 2012, we decided to preserve an air of mystery by asking our singles to share a few basic facts about themselves, and then try to fit their personality into the 17 syllables of a three-line haiku. When it came time to photograph them, the setting was an easy choice — Goodwood Museum and Gardens, one of Tallahassee’s most naturally beautiful backdrops for a photo shoot. And maybe even a wedding!

5. What’s something interesting about you that a lot of people don’t know? I am a redneck at heart… I enjoy hunting and fishing any chance I get☺
6. What do you keep in the trunk of your car? Bike helmet, bike pump, bike shoes and swim bag
7. What is a fear you’d like to overcome? My fear of snakes and spiders!!!
8. What is your guilty pleasure? Taro frozen yogurt and gummy bear toppings.
9. What was your best Halloween costume? When I was 4 years old, I dressed up like a Pepsi Can. I looked pretty cute with Pop Top hat and all, but it was hard to hoard all that candy in that can!
10. What saying do you overuse? LOL
11. On what occasion (if ever) do you lie? When my alarm goes off at 5am to work-out and I decide I need more sleep!
12. What is your current state of mind? Enjoy life, take it all in.
13. What do you value most in your friends? Honesty.
14. What talent would you like to have? Break dancing – it would be an awesome party trick.
15. What is your most treasured possession? My 9-year old weiner dog, Emma Lou.
16. What is your greatest extravagance? Running shoes – I love buying them in all different colors to match my training outfits.
17. DJ or band at a wedding? I love dancing to a great live band.
18. What is your favorite smartphone app? Urban Spoon so I can find new places to eat and try new things wherever I might be.
19. What is the first thing that you notice about someone? If they can maintain eye contact and if they are a good listener.
20. If you could be a cartoon character, who would you be? Wonder Woman!!! I like her outfit and would have fun being a superhero.

– Skydive
– Backpack through Europe
– Be a UFC ring girl (for at least one fight)

4.What three words best describe you? Eclectic, expressive and energetic (all starting with ‘E’s is merely a coincidence. LOL)
5. What’s something interesting about you that a lot of people don’t know? Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s any mystery left to me. I write a weekly column that really keeps me an open book.
6. What do you keep in the trunk of your car? Beach supplies (umbrella, beach bag, cooler) and old shopping bags.
7. What is a fear you’d like to overcome? I don’t know anymore. My biggest fear for a long time was public speaking. But given what I do on the day to day, I’m pretty much over it.
8. What is your guilty pleasure? I don’t think it would appropriate for me to share.
9. What was your best Halloween costume? My last year of college, I was a Playboy bunny, but it was classier than most costumes with the same theme. I was still sexy, while keeping my dignity intact.
10. What saying do you overuse? I have two, “Lil’ bit,” and “A-Mazing!”
11. On what occasion (if ever) do you lie? I believe honesty is the best policy, even if the truth hurts.
12. What is your current state of mind? Peaceful.
13. What do you value most in your friends? Their honesty. If you can’t tell me when I’m a looking a hot mess or obviously making a big mistake, we have a problem.
14. What talent would you like to have? I’m pretty happy with the talents I already possess.
15. What is your most treasured possession? A baby picture of me and my older sister.
16. What is your greatest extravagance? Shopping (clothes, shoes, accessories, home decor… food). I do budget for this.
17. DJ or band at a wedding? I want both! I saw “Rachel Getting Married,” and the reception in that movie was A-Mazing. They literally had it all. I want the same thing.
18. What is your favorite smartphone app? Pinterest. I dedicate at least four hours of my day to it.
19. What is the first thing that you notice about someone? The way they interact with other people. I guess I could sum it up by saying, body language.
20. If you could be a cartoon character, who would you be? That’s a toughie. I had to take a poll on this one… My friends and co-workers say it’s Black Widow. And, I don’t necessarily disagree.

2. iPod question: Do you shuffle and take songs as they come, or stick with a playlist? I mostly shuffle… and am always amazed how great certain, although random songs sound following each other through shuffle- the new version of the good ole’ mix tape.

– Stay for a week in Ian Fleming’s villa at the Goldeneye resort in Jamaica
– Drive a Ferrari throughout the Italian wine country
– Skiing in the Alps
– Have a bespoke suit made on Savile Row
– Teach my niece to drive a stick-shift, convertible sports car
4. What three words best describe you? Only the Best
5. What’s something interesting about you that a lot of people don’t know? I did a big part of the restoration work on my 1939 in-town bungalow myself and can be caught from time to time under the hood of one of my cars.
6. What do you keep in the trunk of your car? Swim trunks, wine/bottle opener and a cigar lighter….you never know when the opportunity will present itself to take a dip in the ocean and to start up or cap off a great evening.
7. What is a fear you’d like to overcome? Turbulence
8. What is your guilty pleasure? Too much sun at the beach, Avenue’s Kentucky Derby Pie and….just one more glass of a really great wine.
9. What was your best Halloween costume? Part of a duo – My best friend Keith Bowers dressed up like Jules Winnfield and I dressed up like Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction. We actually had people stopping us to take pictures with us.
10. What saying do you overuse? No, no I got this… you get it next time.
11. On what occasion (if ever) do you lie? If it isn’t important and the truth would only just hurt someone’s feelings.
12. What is your current state of mind? Content – just got back from a 9-day vacation at the beach with many of my closest friends

14. What talent would you like to have? To be able to belt out a song like Sinatra at the Sands
15. What is your most treasured possession? My deceased father’s solid gold pen that he seemed to always have with him.

5. What’s something interesting about you that a lot of people don’t know? I really enjoy a good symphony.
6. What do you keep in the trunk of your car? Jumper cables for sure, but I also always have a bike tire repair kit, bike helmet, tire pump, extra running shoes, first aid box and a golf drive. Always be ready for action.
7. What is a fear you’d like to overcome? Skydiving. I will make it happen someday.

5. What’s something interesting about you that a lot of people don’t know? After I read a book (especially when I borrow it), I write a short inspirational message somewhere inside for others to find. I only put my first name but in the past six years I’ve had three people contact me after finding a message – one of which was in Italy.

7.What is a fear you’d like to overcome? I have a healthy fear that I might not experience enough interesting cultures, places and faces in my lifetime. Thankfully, the route to overcoming that fear means striking through #1 on my bucket list.
8.What is your guilty pleasure? King-size Snickers and a 20oz. Mountain Dew (Zero guilt if consumed separately.)
9. What was your best Halloween costume? I didn’t think I could top my Pee-wee Herman costume from 2010 but this past year, a few co-workers and I reenacted The Lonely Island’s “The Creep” music video. Best Halloween I’ve ever had.
10. What saying do you overuse? I overuse (in a good way) a saying my Father told me: "There's no value in looking back unless it's used to move forward."
11. On what occasion (if ever) do you lie? I have never lied. (Except when answering this question.)
12. What is your current state of mind? OVERJOYED (that I was able to avoid the lying question).
13. What do you value most in your friends? Diversity. Diverse interests and experiences bring better perspectives.
14. What talent would you like to have? I can’t help but replace the word talent with superpower (having a talent is the closest thing to a superpower anyways, right?) Therefore, teleporting would be a nice talent.
15. What is your most treasured possession? My external hard drive is my most treasured possession due to its contents. If it wasn’t the sole keeper of my digital life (photographs, music, writings, etc.), then it would be pretty worthless. Funny how that works.
16. What is your greatest extravagance? I always prefer Fancy Ketchup.
17. DJ or band at a wedding? If I made this decision without the bride to be, I wouldn't make a great future husBAND. So, I’ll wave a white BANDanna until the time comes. It just wouldn’t be right to answer without her…

3. What are the top five items on your bucket list? Buy a house in Ireland, live like a local in a small foreign village for one month, throw out the first pitch of the world series of a baseball team I own, hike the Appalachian trail with my dog a couple of friends, build a foundation for my community that leaves a lasting legacy

5. What’s something interesting about you that a lot of people don’t know? In college I was an amateur bodybuilder
