Flowers bloom as the spring season in Tallahassee beckons residents and visitors alike to a bouquet of events. Coming out of winter hibernation, you’re likely seeking a look that’s fresh, colorful, and possibly a bit unexpected. When mixing and mingling at events, a sure way to impress is with an updated look via spring-inspired hair and  makeup.

Light as Dew

Defrosted and rejuvenated from winter, spring brings dewy, glowy makeup.

Lisa Davis, owner of Image By Lisa, loves to emphasize her client’s natural beauty, doubling down on the dewy look.

“Skin care is the foundation of the look, so I load up on moisturizer so that even with fuller coverage, the skin still looks fresh and light,” said Davis. “Then, I focus on bright blush and a fun spring lip in nude pinks, true pinks, or blue-based pinks. Frosted or glossy lips look beautiful and feel very spring-forward.”

For daytime events, she suggests letting softly defined brows, minimal eyeshadow, bright cheeks, glossy lips, and light false lashes accessorize the look’s best asset: your  skin.

For eyeshadow, consider pastel hues that best match your skin tone: a lovely lilac, a pretty powder blue, a delicate butter yellow, or a peppy periwinkle.

Night Blooms

For an evening event, Davis amps up the drama, adding more product and color.

She adds that women tend to underestimate how much makeup they need for events, especially at night with photos. She builds the complexion more, matching the foundation to the client’s body rather than their face.

“For evening events, add more definition around the eyes by lining the top lash line and smudging a dark brown shadow into the lower lash line, then I finish with a pop of color on the lips,” says Davis.

Your color palette can still lean lighter, but with more flair: rich chocolatey browns, a vibrant magenta, eye-catching indigo, or an alluring amethyst.

Fresh Tresses

For hair, consider both color and daily styling.

“For spring, we love hair that feels soft, effortless, and sun-kissed,” said Kayla Messer, co-owner of Wanderlust Salon and Spa.

Think lived-in blondes, warm honey and champagne tones, creamy “brondes” (a blend of brown and blonde), and soft strawberry or copper hues. As far as styling, there’s a return to movement with airy layers, relaxed bobs, long butterfly cuts, and natural texture.

“Hairstyles that feel fresh and effortless are what spring is all about,” says Jenna Hollar, owner of Chelsea Salon & Spa. “We definitely emphasize more warmth.”

A hairstylist can also help you find a hairstyle or updo that aligns with your event.

“For a spring daytime event, we aim for an elevated but effortless look,” says Lauren Messer, co-owner of Wanderlust Salon and Spa. “Soft waves, loose curls, or a polished blowout with movement are always timeless. We also love half-up styles, low ponytails with face-framing pieces, or loose braids for a romantic feel.”

Hollar agrees: “For daytime, soft beach waves, and for evening, a tousled updo.”

Up the drama for evening with an updo or more intricate styling technique.

“We love sleek low buns or ponytails, glossy waves, or a more defined curl pattern paired with shine and texture,” says Kayla Messer. “Evening looks often have a bit more polish, with smooth finishes, subtle volume, and intentional detail, while still feeling modern and  wearable.”
