New Leaf Market Co-op is turning 40 and far from having a mid-life crisis, Tallahassee’s premier organic food co-op is throwing a big bash to celebrate!

On May 10, from 3-8 pm, the road between New Leaf Market Co-op and Crispers will be turned into a carnival, with games, booths, live music and loads of fun. There’ll be face painting, kid-friendly games like Duck Pond and Nose Pick( don’t even ask!), even a dunk tank staffed by the Tallahassee RollerGirls.

Of course New Leaf would never let its great customers wander around hungry. Enjoy complimentary all-natural snowcones, all natural popcorn and birthday cake. For beer lovers, Grasslands Brewery, Tri-Eagle and the Co-op are providing free beer, whiles supplies last. And you will want to leave time to cuddle: Tallahassee’s Therapy Pets will be roaming the crowd, and the Animal Shelter will have cute pets looking for a loving home.

It’s all to celebrate New Leaf’s 40 years of bringing Tallahassee the best in organic, locally grown and healthy products. Founded in 1974 by college students looking for affordable food, New Leaf has evolved with the times. It has been in the vanguard of the organic and local food movements. Many suppliers who got their start with New Leaf have gone on to become national distributors.

These days, New Leaf Market Co-op sells everything from handmade candies and soaps to locally produced meats, dairy products,hydroponic greens, regionally roasted coffee, local honey, organic fruits and vegetables, local jams and jellies and much more. At New Leaf, the emphasis has always been on local, says marketing and project manager Cristin Burns: “We have had local suppliers for quite some time.
