Cats About Town
The feline celebrities of the Florida State Campus Cats Club

Under the bushes, around the corners, perched on branches overhead. The campus cats are everywhere.
It started with a few feral cats around Florida State University and a few kind professors feeding them. It progressed when alumna Megan McEnery established the Campus Cats Instagram account in 2021. The account—which was later passed down to McEnery’s roommate, Erin Tilly—tracked the appearances of the school’s resident felines and allowed other students to contribute their own sightings.
But a brighter spotlight on the cats illuminated more needs. Some cats required medical care, and feral kittens needed to be trapped and safely rehomed (once, McEnery and Tilly camped out in a parking garage for six hours to rescue two feral kittens). Clearly, Campus Cats needed to expand.
First came partnerships with off-campus organizations such as Big Bend TNR
(“trap, neuter, return”). Then in March of 2025, the Campus Cats became a registered student organization (RSO) at Florida State—an official club, now supported by university resources.
Today, the Campus Cats club boasts a full leadership board and crew of volunteers. At the helm is Katherine Bullough, a student and director at Feline Advocates of Leon County. The club accepts donations of time and materials to ensure the well-being of the cats and the ability to place vulnerable kittens in foster homes. So far, the club has rescued 11 kittens. New partnerships, such as their collaboration with Fat Cat Books, will provide even more space for strays.
