Top Single Profile: Kristin Dozier

 Kristin Dozier, 40

Occupation: Leon County Commissioner, District 5

Charity: United Way of the Big Bend

Q & A

Why did you choose this charity to support? United Way has partnered with Leon County for many year's and their team knows how to have fun while raising money to support so many of our  fabulous local non-profits.

What is the main character trait you look for in a potential date? Good communication, which is the foundation for everything else.

What is the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done? A seven-week, 12,600 mile cross-country road trip. It was  a great way to experience parts of the US  I hadn’t  seen before, and we did it with a paper map, no cell phone and in ‘85 Honda Accord, which  never gave up on us.

What is the most played song on your iPod? I wonder whatever happened to my iPod?

If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what would it be and why? I haven’t found a favorite age thus far; seems like it only gets easier and I’m still having fun. Turning 40 was certainly a milestone, but it never worried me. We have enough to stress about and there's no reason to worry about the inevitable.

If you could travel back in time and meet yourself as a 10-year-old kid, what advice would you give yourself? Relax! Live and play in the moment, but remember time is on our side and everything will change.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why? An evening with Thomas Jefferson would be divine. From religion to founding our republic, it would be remarkable to talk with someone who established the foundation for so much of what I think about today.

What is your motto? Fly Casual, whether your asfacing the Empire or local politics

What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend? Spending time on the water. Whether it’s at the beach or kayaking I'm thankful we have so many wonderful options!

What do you believe your greatest accomplishment in life is? The opportunity to help people and make a difference in my hometown. It’s a remarkable and humbling feeling to have an idea, take a vote and see it make a difference in people’s lives.

What is at the very top of your bucket list? To hike an active volcano. I’ve always been fascinated by geology and would love to see it in real time.

Do you have any hidden talents? If so, what? I’m an amateur photographer, but good enough to have taken pictures at two weddings and have a steady source of gifts. While I love digital, I was hooked early and spent a lot of time in the darkroom at SAIL High School and TCC.

Are you a morning person or night owl? Mostly a night owl, but I love my mornings too!

What’s your dream car? Difficult to choose between a Tesla and a classic Thunderbird.

What is your favorite Netflix binge series? Another difficult question… It’s fun to watch The West Wing and the updated Battle Star Galactica again, but I like new shows too. Binge watching isn’t what it used to be having cut the cord a year and a half ago. I like the diversity I get with multiple streaming accounts.

What’s a relationship deal-breaker for you? Lying

What’s your favorite splurge/indulgence? Travel when I have the time, clothes when I don't.

What’s your favorite Pandora channel? The Black Keys

What was your worst fashion disaster? This would probably be best not to say…. I never thought I’d be on stage or in front of the camera this much and would hate for someone to go looking for the pictures!

I regret that I have no talent for … Singing. Even a little. You can only lip-sync so many times before it gets silly.

What is your most treasured possession? Thousands of scanned family photos, some dating back to the 1800’s, and the photos I’ve taken of  family, friends, North Florida and while traveling. Wonderful moments and memories.

What quality do you most admire in people? Their innate ability to understand and help others, and the joy that comes from simple acts of kindness.

Do you have a desire to see the Rolling Stones in concert? Maybe not the top of my list, but I do have my favorite songs and it would be great to see a group that has had an impact on music for the last 50 years.

Name a world leader that you would like to have dinner with. German Chancellor Angela Merkle. Whether you agree with her or not, as a woman, and the longtime leader of Europe’s strongest economy, it would be fascinating to talk with  her about current issues from security to climate change and the legacy of World War II.
