Spring is right around the corner, which means it’s time for some spring cleaning! Keep Tallahassee-Leon County Beautiful, along with Super Lube, Waste Pro, the City of Tallahassee and Leon County are hosting “Super Clean Sweep,” the annual city/countywide clean up and beautification event. This event takes place on Saturday, March 1 from 7:30 to 11:00 a.m.
There are nearly 100 groups cleaning up litter and planting to make Tallahassee more pristine. Schools, neighborhoods, civic groups and concerned citizens are joining their efforts to make this the biggest spring clean-up ever!
You can make an impact by working on beautifying the entrance to your neighborhood or planting a community garden. Other volunteers will be cleaning up in parks, the national forest, in neighborhoods, at lakeshores, and on streets and roads.
If you are considering attending the event, the staging area will be at Lake Ella on North Monroe Street from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. where you can pick up supplies and refreshments at the front picnic pavilion. There will be T-shirts (while they last) and Pepsi will provide drinks for volunteers. Marpan, the City of Tallahassee, Leon County and Waste Pro will collect items gathered during the cleanup.
As an extra incentive, first graders have been challenged to clean up their campus on Friday, Feb. 28th. The school with the largest turnout will receive $100 from KTLCB to spend on landscaping or environmental education projects at their school.
This is an open event for all; bring your family, scout troop, friends, civic organizations and business coworkers to help us keep our community clean!
