Purple Willie Jam II
Purple Willie Jam II
August 27, 2016
Purple Willie Jam II, an evening of great, live, local music was a fundraiser for the Tallahassee Walk to End Alzheimer’s. It was held Saturday, August, 27 at Tallahassee’s best music venue, The Junction at Monroe. Event organizer, David Wheeler says the name of the event is a tribute to his father. “His nickname was Willie and purple is the color for Alzheimer’s. He was a brilliant and funny guy. Alzheimer’s is hardly a fitting end to a life well-lived.” This is the second year for this event and Wheeler expects to hold Purple Willie Jam III sometime next August. The first band, Travelin’ Light, performed a mix of originals, Americana, folk-rock, alt country and blues. Hal Shows and D’amnesiacs brought “surreal verse wedded to rock and roll” to the stage. The Fried Turkeys, self-described as Greasy, Hippie, Roots, Country, wrapped up the evening.
