Dads, pull out your dancing shoes, grab the hand of your special little lady and two-step to the Third Annual Northside Rotary Citywide “Daddy Daughter Valentine’s Dance” on Saturday, Feb. 2.
Bring your special daughter, niece, granddaughter or daughter-in-law for an evening of dancing and fun. Hosted by the Northside Rotary Club, the prom-style event will include a dance exhibition, ballroom dancing, group dance instructions, photographers and treats. It will be an evening she won’t forget.
The occasion is a party with a purpose: Funds raised from the event will support projects of the Northside Rotary Club. Those funds go primarily toward the Rotary Youth Camp, a camp for disabled children, and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
The dance will take place from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the National Guard Armory, 1225 Easterwood Drive.
The event is patterned after the Father/Daughter Dance in Valdosta, Ga., which began 11 years ago with about 125 people in a Presbyterian church hall. The Northside Rotary Club hopes that one day its dance will be as large as the Valdosta dance, which sold more than 6,000 tickets at its most recent event. The club has a five-year goal to grow the dance until it’s big enough to hold in the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center.
Celebrity sponsors will include Jackie Pons, superintendent of the Leon County School Board; Tallahassee Mayor John Marks; and Bill Law, president of Tallahassee Community College.
Tickets are $30 for father-daughter pairs and $10 for an extra person. They can be purchased at Famous Dave’s Barbeque, located on Capital Circle Northeast; at all Applebee’s restaurant locations in Tallahassee; at local Hancock Banks; and on the Internet at RotaryDDD.com.
