It’s September in Tallahassee. Life is picking up speed, and traffic is slowing down. Golden hour feels more charged. The streets are packed again with energetic undergraduates finding their way, and a slew of talented new graduate students, professors, and researchers adjust to a new life rhythm. Families are settling in just in time for another school year, a career pivot, or maybe both. You might be among these groups or landing in Tallahassee for a wholly different reason. Regardless of why you’re here—what a wonderful place to be. 

You’re about to enjoy our very first annual City Guide issue. Timely now and useful all year long (as I hope every issue of Tallahassee Magazine is), our City Guide has been specially designed to integrate and educate our newest residents. History, life and leisure recommendations, and insider information converge for a “You Are Here” starting point. Locals, not to worry. There’s plenty for you, too. 

For sports fans, Michael Merlo’s feature on the state of Florida State football, including interviews with a few remarkable players, will catch you up to speed on what to expect for the 2026 season. Like most college towns, our fans are passionate—on page 58, you’ll hear about how that passion drives the players in their own words. Off the field and uptown, Fabrizio Gowdy takes us on a history tour of the Los Robles neighborhood on page 64, just in time for their 100th anniversary. I’m sure you’ll think of this story each time you drive by the iconic Midtown arch. 

My personal favorite part of this issue? The extra tips and local intel spread throughout the stories in the quick-to-spot sidebars. Whether you’re an established resident or brand new to town, who doesn’t love a fun fact? I look forward to this bonus content returning next year, as our City Guide issue transitions to an annual staple.
