Walter E. Colón II, D.M.D., M.S.
If there is one thing Dr. Colón is passionate about, it is that patients receive not only the best possible care, but that they have the best experience at Periodontal Associates. Dr. Colón himself had a traumatic dental experience as a child and is committed to providing compassionate care and positive experiences for his patients. “I want my patients to look forward to their visits to our office!”
Dr. Colón loves caring for his patients and helping them attain the best oral health possible. He believes collaboration with a patient’s general dentist is key to providing the best level of care. In regards to this, he leads three local study clubs (two Spears Study Clubs and one International Team of Implantology or ITI Club for dental professionals). These clubs help to develop a collaborative approach to treatment options for patients. Dr. Colón also leads a local study club for dental hygienists to learn about issues facing patients with periodontal disease and dental implants.
Dr. Colón received his dental degree from the University of Kentucky where he also completed a residency in hospital dentistry (GPR). He went on to do a second residency in hospital dentistry (GPR) followed by a one-year internship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. After 2 years of private practice overseas and one year as GPR Director at Vanderbilt University, he then returned to the University of Kentucky where he completed his residency in periodontics and MS.
Dr. Colón is board certified in Periodontics and Dental Implants. He has been in Tallahassee since 2000 when he joined practice with Dr. Robert Zakarin. Dr. Colón is a member of the Rotary Club of Tallahassee, TCC Foundation Board of Directors, Capital Medical Society Foundation Board of Directors, Florida Association of Periodontists Board of Directors, past-president of the Leon County Dental Society, member of American Academy of Periodontology, American Society of Dental Anesthesiology, Florida Dental Society of Anesthesiology and numerous other dental associations.
