From photorealistic to abstract paintings, the Southern Watercolor Society’s annual exhibition features a wide range of styles and techniques in one of the most challenging mediums: watercolor. 70 artists from 18 states were accepted into this year’s juried exhibition. Juror David R. Smith says he was “honored and humbled” to jury this year’s exhibition, “especially after looking at the quality of the paintings, which will provide viewers a great taste of what can be accomplished in the medium…. I appreciate the passion, skill, and time required, and I have a lot of respect for these artists.”Founded in 1975, the Southern Watercolor Society was formed to elevate the stature of watercolor painters and educate the public to the significance of watercolor painting as an important creative, permanent painting medium. They are dedicated to the highest aesthetic standards and are interested in furthering watercolor artists’ development through demonstrations, workshops, and exhibitions.
